Heritage is Changing Lives One Vehicle at a Time.

In honor of Veterans Day, the Heritage Division partnered with the nonprofit, Vehicles for Change to honor and celebrate those that have served in the United States Armed Forces. The November 10th event included presenting 10 vehicles to 10 deserving veterans from the area whose lives have now been transformed by having access to personal transportation. Below is some information on a few of the men and women who have served our great nation and were presented with vehicles.

Chante Kiley-Washington (Baltimore City) – A US Army veteran who enlisted right out of high school and now works as a substance abuse counselor. Kiley-Washington believes that a car is a “blessing” that saves her family from standing out in the cold this winter awaiting the bus. It will also give her the opportunity to experience extra recreational time that is not dictated by a bus schedule

Jerome Butler (Baltimore Co.) – A US Army veteran who was a Motor Transport Operator supervising and operating wheeled vehicles, transporting personnel and cargo. Butler recently moved to Halethorpe from Harrisburg and looks forward to the ease of visiting his family with his new car!

Nicholas Sapienza (Carroll Co.) – A US Navy veteran who served aboard the SSN 706 USS Albuquerque. Sapienza will now have access to a vehicle so he can take his two young children to school and care for his new baby.

Betty June Flores (Baltimore City) – A US Army veteran, recipient of a Southwest Asia Service Medal with two Bronze Stars and a Kuwait Liberation Medal.

Over the years, MileOne Autogroup has committed more than 180 vehicles to families in need of transportation and hired nine technicians from Vehicles for Change’s Full Circle Training Program, a re-entry program for ex-offenders and unemployed individuals. We believe that transportation can be transformational. By providing access to transportation all the recipients gain the freedom to access their jobs, schools, grocery stores, health care facilities and loved ones.
