Summer “Bucket List” Ideas

This summer, things are returning to normal and the Heritage Honda Bel Air, Parkville & Westminster team is so excited about all the things we’re going to do this year. We’ve made a list of all the great things we want to do, and we hope these ideas inspire you to have an amazing summer with your family.

Make a Backyard Water Park

This might sound like a lot of work, but it’ll be a lot of fun as well. Invite your friends over and don’t forget the snacks and sunscreen! The most popular feature would probably be a DIY slip and slide using a large piece of plastic, water, and some baby shampoo. Moving sprinklers, small pools, water shooters, and water balloons can encourage everyone to play around in the backyard. Perfect for a child’s birthday party or just a fun way to cool off at home, a backyard water park can be fun for the whole family.

Homemade Ice Cream

There are tons of ways to make ice cream at home and the result is a tasty treat for cooling off. For most recipes, all you’ll need is plastic baggies, rock salt, ice, sugar, heavy whipping cream, and half-and-half. You can add whatever flavors your family loves to make it even more fun or even use the ice cream to make sundaes.

Visit a Zoo

Zoos are quite popular in the summer because it’s a great chance to enjoy nature and learn more about animals you don’t normally see. It’s also a great learning experience for children to understand conservation, protection, and the importance of respecting the environment. Families and small children will also be delighted by popular animals like lions, seals, monkeys, and giraffes.

Have a Bonfire with S’mores

S’mores are a classic summer staple. Whether you go camping and enjoy them in nature, use a fire pit to have them in your backyard, or make an in-kitchen option, this tasty treat is as fun to make as it is to eat.

Have a Picnic

Gather up all your family’s favorite foods and enjoy a picnic at your favorite park. You can explore trails, play games, and soak up some rays together.

Go to a street festival

Depending on where you live, most communities have street festivals to celebrate agricultural staples and historic events. These could include things like food truck festivals, seasonal crop celebrations, and more. Reach out to your community to find out what festivals might be going on in your area. Even if there aren’t any street festivals, farmers' markets and flea markets always make for great activities that also support local businesses.

Tie-Dye Shirts

Of course, this isn’t exclusive to just t-shirts. You can experiment with dyeing anything from bedsheets to socks and everything in-between. Take a look at Pinterest for some unique ideas for your tie-dye party. Invite some friends over to take part as well. Kids will love customizing their own clothing and expressing their creativity.

Visit the Library

Maybe it’s just too hot where you live to be outside. This is a great time to help your kids stay engaged with their education by exploring the local library. Let them choose books that interest them rather than focusing on just educating them. Making reading a fun activity can help your children become better readers and more active learners when school starts back up in the fall.
